Ecosmart ECO 27 Electric Tankless Water Heater Review

I have a large family, and one of the downsides of having so many people in my house is the lack of hot water. In the morning, it seems like there is never enough hot water to go around, with the last person using the shower getting the short end of the stick. The fact is, with most water heaters, you are limited by the capacity of the tank. Thankfully, however, there is a better way. Modern technology has provided us with the Ecosmart ECO 27 Electric Tankless Water Heater, which can provide almost unlimited hot water whenever you need it. For my family, installing the Ecosmart system meant that we no longer had to fight over who was first in the shower. Finally, we could take our time without leaving no hot water for the last in line (which was usually me).

Who Needs This Product?

The Ecosmart ECO 27 Water Heater is for everybody; that is, anyone who wants access to hot water without having to wait for the tank to heat up. That being said, here are the types of people the Ecosmart is designed for:

Energy Savers

Large, cumbersome water heaters usually operate with natural gas and take a long time to heat the tank completely. Traditional heating systems use far more energy than the Ecosmart system, which can not only increase your utility bill but increase your impact on the environment. If you’re looking for a simple, effective way to reduce your energy usage, the ECO 27 is an excellent way to do that. Also, since this system takes much less time to heat the water, that means you aren’t wasting cold water as you wait for it to get hot.

Large Families

If you have a large family like mine, you know the hassle of getting ready in the morning. Most days, there just isn’t enough hot water to go around, leaving some family members taking cold showers. For the benefit of your loved ones, getting the Ecosmart Tankless Water Heater means you don’t have to fight each other for the shower; everyone gets a turn and no more cold showers.

Penny Pinchers

The energy used by a traditional water heater can increase your utility bill by a substantial margin. Add in the fact that most of the energy is wasted as heat means that you are literally throwing money down the drain. Additionally, waiting for the water to heat up means you’re spending money on water that is not being used. Fortunately, switching to the Ecosmart system can help you save both time and money in the long run, making the ECO 27 a smart investment; not only for your comfort level but your wallet as well.

Hot Water Lovers

In my family, everyone loves to take an extra long shower. Or, in the case of my wife, a long, warm bath in the evening. With traditional water heaters, you can use up all the hot water in what seems like a heartbeat. With the Ecosmart ECO 27 Electric Tankless Water Heater, however, you can take nice, hot showers for as long as your heart desires. For households with water hogs like mine, the Ecosmart system is a godsend.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. What is the power required for this machine?

A. Ecosmart rates the ECO 27 as needing 27 kilowatts of continuous power, although it will not use all 27 at once. This heater is broken down into three 9 kilowatt heaters, which work in tandem, so you aren’t using all the power at once.

Q. Can you remotely control this device?

A. Yes, Ecosmart does provide a remote control to set the temperature

Q. How many gallons of water can I use at once?

A. This unit is rated to provide up to 5.3 gallons per minute, which, in warmer climates can mean up to four showers and two sinks running simultaneously. In colder climates, however, this number will go down.

Q. Can I Install This Myself?

A. I do not recommend that you put up this unit yourself. To install the ECO 27 system, you will need both a plumber and an electrician to ensure that everything is connected properly. Unless you are highly qualified in both professions, I would strongly advise against doing it yourself. Additionally, getting rid of your old water heater may be an issue.

Final Verdict

While having a tankless water heater is nothing short of amazing, I must stress something about the ECO 27. While this device is excellent at heating large amounts of water, it will only work as well as the temperature of the water coming into your home. If you live in a cold climate, such as an area that gets snow a lot, this heater may not be able to warm your water to meet your needs. That is because the colder the water coming in, the more the heater has to work to heat it up. In traditional water heaters, the temperature of the incoming water was irrelevant, as the device would heat whatever was in the tank at the same time. For a tankless heater, however, the incoming temperature can significantly affect the ability of the system to generate hot water.

That all being said, I live in a moderate climate, so the ECO 27 works like a dream. If you live in a temperate or a warm area, then I would highly recommend getting the Ecosmart system for your home, as it works beautifully all year round. Never having to worry about losing hot water again is worth the extra installation cost, and the amount of money you’ll save in the long run only makes the ECO 27 even more worth the investment.
